Yoga at Work

Many organizations are now focusing on wellness in the workplace; some companies are instigating four day weeks, and others are offering a range of in-work programs designed to care for their employees. Yoga in the workplace is immensely popular and brings a myriad of benefits to your team. Healthy and motivated employees are obviously good for business, and making small changes, including breathwork, yoga, meditation, and mindfulness, can translate to impressive wellness results. I offer a tailor-made bespoke service to each company, designing a wellness programme that meets your businesses needs and fits around a busy schedule.

Yoga Can Reduce Stress

In many research studies, workplace stress will come out as being one of the major factors affecting quality of life. Even within great companies where employees enjoy their role and workplace environment, stress can easily creep in. High levels of stress lead to increased absenteeism, which in turn is affects productivity and revenue. Yoga is an excellent tool for combating stress and reducing cortisol, the stress hormone in our bodies. Cortisol increases when we are stressed and sustained higher levels of cortisol are damaging to long term health. Even a short period of yoga can significantly help lower tension and stress levels.  Using breathing techniques, mindfulness movement and embodiment practices I can empower your workforce to take control of their own mental and emotional health. Much of what they learn can also be used at home, and regular sessions at work enable people to grow their practice.

Yoga to Improve Brain Function and Creativity

By lowering stress levels and reducing cortisol we create a clear mental space, enabling greater focus, creativity, and improved mood. When we are stressed, our minds become cluttered, and decisions become impossible, which can affect our productivity and behavior towards others. Even 20-30mins of yoga is fantastic for mood, alertness and drive. Increased blood flow to the body’s tissues, in particular the brain, is a key factor in both short term performance and long term health. Meditation also teaches focus and helps bring about awareness and concentration. Increasingly research now points to team-based mindfulness meditation training as a valid tool to improve group cohesion and emotional competence.

Yoga to Boost Immunity

Unlike many other forms of exercise, yoga does not just focus on physical fitness but combines mind-body and spirit connections. This unique approach has been shown to stimulate the lymphatic system, which helps to remove toxins from the body and strengthens immune function. Unlike the circulation system our lymph system has no heart to pump the fluid around its vessels. It relies on movements such as bending, twisting and inversions (upside down) to promote drainage and health. If practiced regularly yoga can also lead to a decrease in stiffness and joint pain as it gradually opens up energetic blockages within tissues and tendons. Overall companies can expect a reduction in time off due to sickness, and these health benefits will trickle into every aspect of your employees’ lives.

Yoga for Your Brand

My teaching supports individual team members but more widely a wellness offering is a positive reflection on any company.  Ensuring your organisation is committed to wellness gives you the competitive edge when seeking to recruit the very best in talent. Increasingly within the labour market, talented people seek a positive and healthy work environment . Access to regular yoga and meditation in the workplace could tip the balance in your favour.
